Our men's team kicked off their pre-season with a win and an impressive performance when they overcame Celtic Stars from the Carlow and District League 2-0 last night. After some intense fitness training in recent weeks, manager Joe Newe was eager to see if the team were ready for their first challenge and although he was unable to be there on the night himself, his Assistant Willie Maher was more than capable of taking charge.
Division One of the Wexford League will be a very competitive one this season with some very strong clubs in contention so it is important to get off to a good start and our management team will be pleased with this performance. They held possession well and for long periods of the game which negated any threat with Richie O Hara and the returning Mick "Savo" Kelly always looking dangerous up front with Dane McGarry and Jason Maguire both impressing on their debuts.
Savo and Eoin Carton scored the all important goals in this match against a hard working Celtic Stars who will also be happy enough with their performance.
