A review of what has been a good 2016

With all the teams enjoying mid-season breaks and all well up on their matches, we now take this opportunity to look back on where all the teams stand in their respective divisions and what the remainder of the season might hold

Under Nine and Ten Boys
Both these sides play non competitive but both are doing well in their respective blitzes and games and the management teams of Bridget Nolan Kenny and Darragh Hendrick are happy with how the squads are performing.
The future of the club is in the hands of these players and it is great to see the efforts of the managers, coaches, parents, supporters and of course the players, all this work will pay off in the near future

Under Ten Girls
This season we have one of the strongest Under Ten girls squads that we have had in a while and under the management of Martin Doyle and his Assistant Rebecca Doran Doyle they have qualified to play in division one for the remainder of the season. They won four and drew one of their five games in the regional section, scoring nineteen goals and conceding five, with all of the sixteen players in the squad playing a part. Mikayla Tobin Cosgrave leads the way as the top scorer but Emer Roche, Megan Hayes and Ciara Kenny have also showed they are capable of finding the net while goalkeeper Eabha Roban has showed she is a talent for the future.
The girls resume their season away to Forth Celtic on Saturday January 7th in the league and play at home to All Blacks in the second round of the cup two weeks later

Prediction: This squad are probably good enough to compete for the Division One title but this age group is difficult to predict and it will depend on how well they can get up and running when season resumes

Under Eleven Boys
This team are the side to watch if you want to see goals as their five games in the league have produced a total of forty goals, an average of eight per game. Unfortunately, as manager Darragh Hendrick says "we score a lot of goals but we concede a lot as well" as his team heads into the break having won just one of the five games but have lost three of the remaining games by less than two goals and only leaders Bunclody managed a three goal winning margin over this group of players. Performance of the season was in the first game away to Fethard Rangers when we traveled with five players and just lost 4-3 while the win came in dramatic circumstances against Camolin in the second game of the season.
Stephen O Toole is the main scorer for the team with Danny Dreelan, Conor Dillon and Oran McGovern also finding the net throughout the season and while results are not going their way, more consistency in numbers would see the results become more positive

Prediction: A couple of more wins before the season ends and possibly cause an upset by beating one of the top teams in the division and definitely a group of players who will form an integral part of the club in years to come

Under Twelve Girls
Last season our Under Twelve girls finished runners up in their division but this season saw most of them players move up to the Under Fourteen side, leaving manager Pat Walsh with a very young squad which also has to call on the Under Ten squad to fulfil numbers. Despite these issues, this young team have managed to pick up three points after a thrilling 5-4 win at home to Rosslare Strand although their other games in this division have resulted in defeats. The positives in this season will come from the fact that team should hold its place in this division, resulting in the younger players coming through in the next few seasons will be playing at the higher level. The other positive is that the character being shown by this group of players is excellent and they will battle to the end, irrelevant of what the score might be at the time and they pick up their rewards as proven in the win over Rosslare Strand. Anna Dragusin has proven to be an excellent signing and has scored most of the goals scored by the team so far with Leanne Walsh also getting her name on the list. There are still some excellent performances to be be generated by this squad and just needs a bit more comittment in numbers to get a few more points on the board

Prediction: To survive in this division, avoid relegation and and continue to improve as the season goes on

Under Twelve Boys
Our Under Twelve boys are half way through the season and find themselves in fifth place on the table but just three points off the top, having just lost two of their six games to date. This is one of Bob's teams that play "total football" and have been rewarded with some good wins and have only lost to the top two, Shelburne and Cloughbawn, both who have physically stronger teams. Once again, Stephen O Toole leads the scoring charts but this time around, he is surrounded by several other players capable of scoring goals such as Robert McCrea, Conor Dillon and Patrick Murphy plus they dont concede goals softly and if they can turn around the results against the leaders in the second half of the season, they could move into a title challenging position.
An away draw to Division Two side Fastnet Rovers will be an interesting challenge for this side and not an impossible task....no pressure

Prediction: Could be one of our teams that could sneak in for a medal if they get a bit of luck and commitment from the squad in the important games

Under Thirteen Boys
This team has played seven of their ten league games and sit just that bit too far behind the leaders to make any serious impact but in their seven games to date, they have won two and drew two and played some excellent passing football along the way. An opening day 5-10 defeat in Forth Celtic came as a major wake up call but the team reacted well and actually drew with Forth in the return fixture a few weeks later. Similar circumstances with Corach. a win in Tombrack and a heavy defeat away would give the impression that this team does not travel well. However when at full strength and playing well, they are good enough to take on anyone with the goals coming mainly from Conor Salt, Conor O Toole, Colm Fortune and Robert McCrea.
They face a tough draw against Wexford Albion in the cup but a chance of an upset is not outside the realms of possibility and they have proved they are capable of performing in big games as they were within seconds of defeating unbeaten Gorey Celtic in the league only for Celtic to score an injury time equaliser

Prediction: Top three finish is still a practical possibility but need to get the away form in the big games sorted

Under Fourteen Girls
Our Under Fourteen girls lost their opening match of the season but have been unbeaten ever since and are currently joint top of the division. Two wins over Wexford Youths as well as a big win away to Corach Ramblers have moved them up alongside Seaview United and North End United so they are well placed to launch a bid for the title in 2017. New signing Nadine Fortune has made an impact in front of goal, scoring nine goals in the three games she has played with this team so far and added to scoring skills of Shauna McGovern and Zoe Tobin Cosgrave, they are proving to be clinical in front of goal. They are also conceding very few goals and have only let in one goal since North End scored five in that opening day defeat. They also have a decent draw in the second round of the cup where they will take on Bree United in Ballyboy and while nothing can be taken for granted, they would be expected to progress to the quarter finals

Prediction: To be well in the mix for the title, or at least promotion, right up to the bitter end and are a side well capable of winning this division

Under Fourteen Boys
Our Under Fourteen boys have only two league matches remaining but can be more than happy with their performances, winning four and losing four of their eight games played. This is a very young side and have great potential in the seasons to come and aside from the games against the two leaders, they have been competitive in all other games including wins over Gorey Celtic and Gorey Rangers.
The main scoring threat comes from Evan Maher and William Kenny while Conor Salt, Adam Jeffers and Rashid Yashin have also being on the scoresheet.
Overall, manager Willie Maher is happy with how the lads have performed and believes there is a big performance left in them before the season ends

Prediction: Difficult to predict as their season is almost over but third place is not beyond their capabilities at this stage

Under Fifteen Boys
As we head into 2017, our Under Fifteen boys are well in the mix as they compete with Kilmore United and Gorey Rangers for the league title with a home game against Kilmore likely to be a key point in the season. They lost 4-2 in Kilmore in October but the game was much closer than the scoreline suggests so manager David Fitzgibbon is confident his side can take all three points when the teams meet in Tombrack. Of course, Gorey Rangers have pulled themselves into contention with a 4-2 win at home to our lads and are well capable of upsetting leaders Kilmore as well.
Josh McMullan has scored in six of the seven games this side has played while Harry Fitzgibbon, David Power and Barry O Toole are also scoring regularly
This division is likely to go down to a very tight finish with that game against Kilmore likely to be the key one for Tombrack

Prediction: A possible league title but definitely well capable of a runners up spot and even at this point it has been a good season for this side anyway

Under Sixteen Girls
Our Under Sixteen girls are sitting top of the Premier division as wel head into 2017 and with some big wins behind them, they are piling the pressure on holders Cloughbawn. Our girls have won all five of their league matches so far and most of them quite comfortably and only the game at home to Bunclody caused any concern as we ran out 3-2 winners.
With an array of scoring talent, a strong midfield as well as a hard working defence and strong goalkeeper, this side is almost the perfect package and their ability to work hard under pressure is what stands them out from the rest.
With goalscoring talent in the form of Becky Connaughton, Nadine Fortune, Shannon McGovern, Kelli Maguire and Nicola Ryan, it is difficult for any opposing defence to contain them
With two big games in 2017 v Cloughbawn as well as away games against Bunclody and St Leonards, this squad has major potential and has a lot to look forward to

Prediction: Well capable of lifting the Premier title and if they can get over a difficult first round cup tie away to Bunclody, the double is not beyond their capabilities

Under Eighteen Girls
Our Under Eighteen girls are competing in the experimental seven a side league which was brought in by the league to assist teams who were unable to field teams at eleven a side. Despite an opening day defeat to Bree United, when we lost 2-0, our girls have won one and drew two, as well as receiving a walkover when North End withdrew.
As the season heads into 2017, our girls are still in the running in what is a very tightly contested league and the small sided goals on the big pitch is making scoring difficult so any team is capable of taking points from each other.
Our side is very young, mainly being built around the Under Sixteen team, and have a few years competitng at this level so the future is bright

Prediction: Well capable of challenging for the title if they can put a consistent run of form together and grab a couple of wins in a row

Under Eighteen Boys
At this stage of the season, our Youth's side are well in contention for the league title and it is completely in their own hands if they win all four of their remaining league games, they will win the league. The team has been very impressive all season although were unfortunate to draw with Wexford Albion twice and this could have proven costly but with other results going their way, they are still well in the running.
The team is well balanced throughout with an excellent defence, dominant midfield and forwards capable of scoring goals so it has to be felt the team is good enough to take the title. Manager Willie Maher is confident he has the players to win this division and will drive them hard in their quest to do so.
Several players are showing the desire to win with Jack Kehoe, Evan Maher, John Kavanagh and the Kenny brothers, Kieran and Kevin, all enjoying a good season.
A good cup run is also not beyond belief if the draw is good to them and they can get past St Josephs in the first round

Prediction: Team is definitely good enough to win this division and will do so if they work hard enough in the four vital games in the coming months

Women
As we head into the new year, the Women's team sit joint top of Division Three and remain unbeaten with five wins and a draw. As with the Youths team, the destination of the league title sits completely in their own hands and if they continue their good run into 2017, a league title is definitely possible.
Even at this stage they are seven points clear of third place so promotion is almost a definite at this stage although they do have some tricky games to come.
With a mixture of experience and youth, the team possess everything required to win the division and their goalscoring tally in the league is 21 for with just 2 against. Several players are capable of scoring goals with Sarah Merrigan, Sharon Walsh, Mary Boland, Tammy Hennessy and Kelli Maguire all finding the net on a regular basis while defensively the team is proving to be very strong.
Manager Peter Doyle is happy with the way the experience and youth has gelled together and if the team can remain injury free, they are well capable of enjoying a very successful season

Prediction: Team definitely good enough to win the league but will just need to be a little more clinical in front of goal and work harder at killing off games earlier

Men's Second Team
A poor start to the season, where they only picked up one point from a possible twelve, gave the impression that our men's second team were out of their depth in Division Four A. However in the nine games after that, they have only lost once and have pulled themselves from the bottom of the division up to third.
With Cloughbawn looking to have the title more or less wrapped up, St Josephs look set to finish second but our lads can still catch them if they can put in a consistent run in their remaining five games.
Players have hit form in front of goal at this important point of the season with John Ryan in particular beginning to pick off scores in vital matches, scoring the only goal of the game at home to Boolavogue being a typical example.
With a good mixture of the Youth team blending into this team as well as a good level of experience in the shape of James Hendrick, David Kennedy and Savo, this team are well capable of getting promoted for the second season in a row

Prediction: Well in for promotion and with a bit of good luck, runners up spot can still be achieved

Men's First Team
Our men's first team are having a topsy turvy season that could see them finish anywhere from relegated to promoted as they currently sit second from bottom but with five in games in hand on the teams around them.
A decent run in the LFA Junior Cup saw them knock out LSL side Enniskerry YC and Wexford League Premier side Kilmore United, before being eventually knocked out by Curracloe in the third round. Games being called off for various other reasons means that our lads have only played six league matches while most of the teams in the division have played twelve.
Two recent good wins at home to Wexford Bohs (3-0) and Curracloe United (6-0) has them poised just behind St Leonards and another win would see them rocket up the league table.
The team have an overall balance of youth and experience and is gelling well together with several players scoring goals and new signings Jason Maguire (goal) and Tommy Devereux (midfield) are both making a major impact on an already strong side.
As they have less than a third of their league season played, they can expect a busy 2017 which can be a good advantage if the team can stay injury and suspension free
Manager Joe Newe is confident that this side can make it to, and compete, in the Premier Division and this could be the season to achieve that ambition

Prediction: Anything can happen, from a season long battle against relegation to a strong push for promotion and on current form and confidence, it will be a big push for a top three finish....with two good cup runs thrown in for good measure

Men round out 2016 with big win

Wexford Football League Division One
Tombrack United  6  Curracloe United  0
The lads finished off 2016 in fine style when they completely overran Curracloe United 6-0 and although are lads are still second bottom in the table, they are putting their games in hand to great use and if they can keep up this form, two more wins will see them right in the middle of the promotion sides. Goals in the opening twenty minutes from Richie O Hara and Eoin Carton had the lads 2-0 ahead and although Curracloe did manage to pull themselves into the game they were unable to break down a resolute Tombrack defence.
A goal six minutes into the second half from James Coleman made life even more difficult for the visitors and although they once again enjoyed periods of possession, they were still unable to make any impact on the Tombrack goal. Goals from Jamie Walshe and Tommy Devereux within a minute of each other midway through the second half ended the game as a contest and Jamie Walshe got his second five minutes from the end to wrap up an important three points.
Cup games will take centre stage early in the new year with the opening rounds of the Wexford Cup and Neil O Sullivan Cup

Well done to all involved with this team, enjoy Christmas and continue on with this winning form in 2017.

Results 11-12-2016

Wexford Football League Division One
Tombrack United  3  Wexford Bohs  0
A blistering second half performance saw our lads overcome a fancied Wexford Bohs 3-0 and move closer to catching the group in front of them and ironically if we won all our games in hand, we would move into a promotion place. The first half of this match was a dour affair with neither side creating any meaningful chances but the second half exploded into life when Bob Newe got on the end of a corner and volleyed an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net from thirty five yards out. This was the catalyst Tombrack needed and goals followed from Richie O Hara and James Coleman to wrap up a 3-0 win and a very important three points.

Wexford Football League Division Four A
Tombrack United  1  Boolavogue United  0
Our men's second team have gelled together excellently and have hit a good run of form and they kept their promotion chances alive when they overcame Boolavogue 1-0 in a very tight match. Both sides had goals disallowed in the first half before John Ryan lobbed the keeper midway through the second half to score. Boolavogue piled on the pressure but keeper Alan Owens and his defence held firm and the lads held on for a very important three points

Under Twelve Schoolgirls Cup First Round

Under Twelve Schoolboys Division Three
Shelburne FC  4  Tombrack United  1
Our lads started the day in joint second with Shelburne but found the Ballywilliam lads a strong physical side and despite matching them in football terms, they were eventually beaten 4-1. Stephen O Toole scored for Tombrack in a game that was much closer than the scoreline suggests

Under Fourteen Schoolboys Division Three
Tombrack United  4  Gorey Celtic "B"  1
Our lads proved too strong for Gorey Celtic and have moved to a safe midtable position after this 4-1 win. Even Maher scored twice with Conor O Toole and an own goal saw Tombrack take all three points

Under Sixteen Premier One
Tombrack United  12  Shelburne FC  1
Our girls made it five wins from five games and sit on top of the premier division heading into the Christmas break. They were always in control in this game and led 8-0 at half time and eventually ran out 12-1 winners. Nadine Fortune scored four, Becky Connaughton added a hat trick while Shannon McGovern, Nicola Ryan, Zoe Tobin Cosgrave, Kelli Maguire and a spectacular long range effort from Breda Cushen gave Tombrack all three points

Apologies for late reports this week but its for obvious reasons !!!

Wexford Football League Division Four A
Ajax Athletic  0  Tombrack United  6
Our men's second team are now well in contention for promotion after this 6-0 win away to Ajax on Sunday and with six games remaining, a good run in could see runners up spot a distinct possibility.
They dominated this game from start to finish and were well deserving of the three points with goals from Kevin Kenny, Kieran Kenny, James Hendrick, two from John Ryan plus an own goal from an Ajax defender. Home to Boolavogue in a crucial tie which will go a long way to determining the remainder of the season

Womens MMI.ie Wexford Cup First Round
Tombrack United  2  Seaview United B  0
The women rounded off 2016 with a win over Seaview United second team in the Wexford Cup and extended their impressive unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions. Tombrack were always in control in this game and never allowed the young visitors to settle into the game but did find them difficult to break down with Sharon Walsh, Sarah Merrigan and Kelli Maguire all going close for the home side. No goals in the first half but Tombrack continued to dominate the second half before Sarah Merrigan eventually broked the deadlock on seventy one minutes with a well struck shot to the roof of the net. Shannon McGovern went close twice before Mary Boland broke through a crowded defense five minutes from the end to shoot past the keeper and secure Tombrack's place in the last sixteen.
Another good overall team performance from the full squad and all who attended were well deserving of the Christmas drinks in Coleman's after the match

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Mary Boland, Kelli Maguire, Sarah Merrigan, Marie Allen, Chloe Hayden Doyle, Sharon Walsh (Shannon McGovern)
Leanne Kenny (Katie O Toole)

Under Eleven Schoolboys Division Two A
Oylegate United  5  Tombrack United  3
Our Under Elevens were understrength against title challengers Oylegate United and they had to concede the game. However the did get some benefit from the day as they played a friendly with the home side running out 5-3 winners

Under Thirteen Schoolboys Division Three
Bree United  2  Tombrack United  4
Bob's philosophy of "total football" is beginning to show results as his Under Thirteens travelled to Bree and came away 4-2 winners, picking up their second win of the season. The lads played excellent passing football all the way through the game and led 4-0 with goals from Conor Walsh, Conor Salt, Colm Fortune and Robert McCrea. They did allow Bree back into the game to score two late goals and Tombrack came away with all three points

Under Fourteen Schoolgirls Division Two B
Wexford Youths  0  Tombrack United  8
Our Under Fourteen girls made it three wins from four games as they overcame Wexford Youths with eight goals to spare and move joint top of the table. A hat trick from Nadine Fortune, two goals from Shauna McGovern and one each from Zoe Tobin Cosgrave, Ana Dragusin and Tara Kenny gave the girls a vital three points and keeps them in contention in the title race

Under Fifteen Schoolboys Division Three
Tombrack United  6  Enniscorthy Town  0
The Under Fifteen boys bounced back from their shock defeat to Gorey Rangers with a 6-0 win over Enniscorthy Town who were just three points behind going into this game. This win keeps the lads well in contention for the title with the goals coming from David Power, Harry Fitzgibbon (2) and Josh McMullan (3)

Under Eighteen Schoolgirls League
St Leonards  1  Tombrack United  1
Only three points divide all five teams remaining in this league and our girls are well in the running after this well earned point away from home in Ballycullane. Becky Connaughton was the scorer midway through the second half but the home side levelled just a few minutes later. Tombrack were unlucky not to snatch the win as Becky and Shannon both went close in the dying minutes

Youths Boys Division Four
Ajax Athletic  1  Tombrack United  9
Our Youths remain unbeaten and well in contention for the title after they overcame a hard working Ajax side 9-1 and were well in control for long periods of the game. Kieran Kenny scored a hat trick of penalties with some untidy defending proving costly for the home side, his brother Kevin also scored a hat trick with John Kavanagh, Jack Kehoe and Sean Bookey all finding the net. The lads led 6-0 at the break where our defence and keeper were rarely troubled and we were unlucky not to be much further ahead and manager Willie Maher was disappointed with the chances missed. Ajax dug deep in the second half and defended strongly and restricted Tombrack's opportunities with the home keeper pulling off two top class saves. This Tombrack side is well balanced throughout from goalie, through defence, midfield and forwards and has the potential to win this division if they get the breaks and they can keep up their work rate. Their manager definitely believes his side have the potential and he is determined to get the best from this talented group of players

Results 27-11-2016

Wexford Football League Division One
Ferns United  2  Tombrack United  1
A controversial penalty early in the game set Ferns on the way to victory in the first of this seasons derbies between the two clubs. In a hard fought encounter, both sides battled hard but it was Ferns who looked most comfortable in front of goal and went 2-0 ahead before Eoin Carton pulled one back for Tombrack near the end. However, Ferns held on for a very important three points and move up the table as Tombrack remain in the bottom two but with several games in hand

Wexford Women's League Division Three
Tombrack United  2  St Cormacs  0

St Cormacs hit the post midway through the second half but a goal from Tammy Hennessy wrapped up the points with seven minutes left. It was a game of missed chances for Tombrack but St Cormacs worked hard throughout the game but Marie Allen, Mary Martin, Tia Byrne and goalscorer Kelli Maguire were all outstanding for Tombrack

Squad:  Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Mary Boland, Marie Allen, Sarah Merrigan, Kelli Maguire, Sharon Walsh (Tammy Hennessy) Leanne Kenny (Chloe Hayden Doyle), Katie O Toole, Saoirse Harris

Under Twelve Schoolgirls Division Two B
New Ross Town  9  Tombrack United  0
Our young Under Twelve girls side travelled to leaders New Ross Town and were unable to contain the home side who are unbeaten and made it six wins from six games with this win. The girls battled as well as possible against quality opposition and can be proud of their efforts against a side who already look like they will win the division

Under Fourteen Schoolboys Division Three
Tombrack United  2  Wexford Celtic  3
A five goal thriller saw the Under Fourteen boys come out on the wrong end against Wexford Celtic as they lost 3-2. Conor Salt and Conor O Toole were on target for battling Tombrack side who will feel unfortunate not to have got at least a point from this game

O Neills LFA Junior Cup Third Round
Tombrack United  0  Curracloe United  1
The lads good run in the LFA Junior Cup came to an end on Sunday when going down to a second half goal at home to Curracloe United. In a very evenly contested match, both sides created chances but defences and goalkeepers dominated until the Seasiders got the break in the second period of the game and booked their place in the last thirty two. Tombrack did battle hard to get back on level terms with Richie O Hara going close but Curracloe did enough to hold on.
Tombrack can now settle down to league action as they have only three league matches played as we head towards Christmas and the games in hand will make the season interesting

Wexford Football League Division Four A
Cloughbawn AFC  3  Tombrack United  1
Our second team have had a tough run of fixtures in recent weeks but have now played the top three division twice and have produced good performances in all those games. Today they travelled to leaders Cloughbawn and went ahead after five minutes through John Ryan but the home side are favourites to lift the title and battled back strongly to score three and take all three points

Wexford Women's League Division Three
Tombrack United  5  Cushinstown AFC  0
Our Women moved joint top of the table after this 5-0 win over Cushinstown in a cold Ballyboy this afternoon. After a good start, a fortunate Sarah Merrigan corner deceived everyone and went straight to the net after five minutes, twenty minutes later Leanne Kenny got on the end of a Kelli Maguire cross to score her first competitive goal for the senior team. Mary Boland made it 3-0 just before the break when she outpaced the visitors defence to slot the ball past the keeper.
The early part of the second half belonged to Cushinstown but they could not break down a hard working Tombrack defence and slowly but surely our women got back on top and some good work between Sarah, Kelli and Mary put Sharon Walsh through to score and ten minutes later Tammy Hennessy scored to wrap up a very important three points

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Marie Allen (Chloe Hayden Doyle) Leanne Kenny (Sharon Walsh), Mary Boland, Tammy Hennessy (Katie O Toole), Kelli Maguire, Sarah Merrigan

Underage results for 19/11/2016

Under Ten Schoolgirls North Division
Tombrack United  6  Aughrim Rangers  0
Our Under Ten girls rounded off the year top of the North Division, which qualifies them for Division One for the new year, and unbeaten with four wins from their five games. Aughrim Rangers will feel unlucky not to have at least scored as they hit the post twice and brought a couple of good saves from the Tombrack keeper. However, it was our young superstars who ruled the day and ran out 6-0 winners with Mikayla Tobin Cosgrave scoring a hat trick with Emer Roche adding two and Ciara Kenny also finding the net. With the team getting a bye in the first round of the cup, this team wont be back in competitive action until mid January so well done to Martin, Rebecca and all the squad for a great 2016

Under Eleven Schoolboys Division Two A
Tombrack United  3  Bunclody AFC  6
This team continues to produce high scoring encounters with several goals being scored, and as manager Darragh Hendrick commented "unfortunately conceded" as they put in an excellent display against a well organised Bunclody side who proudly sit top of the table with six wins from six games.
Tombrack played some excellent football in this match and will feel unlucky to go down by a three goal margin with Stephen O Toole scoring two with Danny Dreelan also finding the net

Under Thirteen Schoolboys Division Three
Tombrack United  1  Gorey Celtic B  1
Our Under Thirteen boys put in what was arguably their best performance of the season as they led league leaders Gorey Celtic 1-0 deep into injury time until a late late goal from the visitors saw them leave Ballyboy with a very fortunate point. Conor Salt had scored to put Tombrack in front and a hard working display from the whole squad saw them hold on to that lead until Celtic grabbed their equaliser. Tombrack were disappointed to have been so close to an important three points but manager Bob Newe was high in his praise for his players stating "everyone worked very hard and would have deserved the three points but all the players are to be praised for their efforts"

Under Fourteen Schoolgirls Division Two A
Corach Ramblers  1  Tombrack United  7
The Under Fourteen girls moved to third in the league after they made the long journey to Corach Ramblers and came away 7-1 winners. Our girls never allowed the home side to settle in the game and four goals from Nadine Fortune, two from Shauna McGovern and one from Zoe Tobin Cosgrave gave the girls their second win from three games.

Under Fifteen Schoolboys Division Three
Gorey Rangers B  4  Tombrack United  2
The home side went down 7-0 to our lads at the start of the season but got revenge for that defeat when they put a severe dent in our lads title hopes with a 4-2 win in Gorey. Harry Fitzgibbon scored both goals for Tombrack but it was not enough against a much improved Rangers side who have now joined Kilmore and our lads in the battle for the title

Youths Division Four
Tombrack United  3  Wexford Albion  3
These two sides met for the second time in a month and both games have ended in a draw and keeps both sides in contention for the title. Our Youths are still unbeaten but this is their third draw of their five games which could prove costly although the division is proving to be very competitive. Jack Kehoe scored two in this game with Niall Maher also getting his name on the scoresheet

All three adult teams pick up points

O Neills LFA Junior Cup Second Round
Tombrack United  4  Kilmore United  0
The lads are through to the last sixty four of the LFA Junior Cup after this 4-0 win over Premier side Kilmore United in Ballyboy on Sunday morning with a home game against Curracloe the reward. Even though there was a four goal margin at the end, Tombrack had to work very hard for this win and keeper Jason Maguire had to make a couple of vital saves at various points in the game. However, goals from Bob Newe, Darragh Hendrick, John Coleman and Jamie Walsh saw our lads progress to the third round for the first time ever

Wexford Football League Division Four A
Tombrack United  1  St Josephs  1
Our mens second team will feel disappointed to have drawn this match after being in control and leading 1-0 for over an hour. The game began evenly enough but it was Tombrack who took control on twenty eight minutes when a Kevin Kenny shot was well saved by the keeper but John Kavanagh was on hand to force the ball into the net. The lads looked to be heading for the three points until disaster struck two minutes from the end when a corner went straight to the net to give St Josephs a point

Wexford Women's League Division Three
Bridge Rovers  0  Tombrack United  5
The women moved into second on their own after a strong second half performance saw them see off a hard working young Bridge Rovers side. In a scrappy first half, Tombrack had to work hard to keep the home side at bay and managed to score when Sarah Merrigan found space on the edge of the box to slot past the keeper. Tombrack were much more dominanat in the second half and Sarah Merrigan scored a penalty after Tammy Hennessy had been taken down by the keeper and this was followed ten minutes later when Mary Boland slotted home. Tia Byrne scored a free kick before Sarah completed her hat trick fifteen minutes from time. This win moves the women clear in second place, three points behind leaders Stoney with a game in hand

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin (Shannon McGovern), Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Mary Boland, Sarah Merrigan, Marie Allen, Kelli Maguire, Leanne Kenny (Katie O Toole), Tammy Hennessy (Sharon Walsh)

Three wins out of Four for Underage

Under Twelve Girls Division Two B
Tombrack United  5  Rosslare Strand  4
Our Under Twelve girls produced their first win of the season when they came out on top of this nine goal thriller against Rosslare Strand. Both sides enjoyed good seasons last year but are both fielding much younger sides this season but that did not take away from the entertainment in this game. Anna Dragusin continued her good scoring form since joining the club as she scored four with hard working Leanne Walsh also scoring to give Tombrack their first win of the season

Under Twelve Boys Division Three
Curracloe United B  3  Tombrack United  6
Our Under Twelve boys picked up their second win of the season with victory in Curracloe, a three points that moves them up behind the top two. Two goals each from man of the match Stephen O Toole and a hard working Patrick Murphy as well as one each from Danny Dreelan and Mark Devereux gave the lads a well earned win

Under Fourteen Boys Division Three
Ballymurn Celtic  7  Tombrack United  3
The Under Fourteen boys traveled to league leaders Ballymurn Celtic and put in a decent performance before eventually going down 7-3. William Kenny scored twice with Evan Maher also finding the net but it was not enough against an impressive home side who remain unbeaten and top of the table

Under Sixteen Girls Premier One
Tombrack United  3  Bunclody AFC  2
These two premier sides produced a five goal thriller before Tombrack eventually recorded their third win of the season and remain top of the premier division just ahead of close rivals Cloughbawn. Bunclody took an early lead in the game but two goals from Becky Connaughton and one from Shauna McGovern had Tombrack 3-1 ahead. Bunclody did pull one back before the end but our impressive young side held on for a vital three points

Sunday, 6 November 2016

Another busy weekend produces some great performances

Under Ten Girls North
Bunclody AFC  1  Tombrack United  1
Our youngest competitive team faced a tough test away to Bunclody but came away with a point after a very entertaining encounter. In an end to end game, the game could have gone either way but our girls earned a point courtesy of a well taken Megan Hayes goal, a result that leaves us top of the section with one game to go and should go into the new year competing for the division one league.

Under Eleven Boys Division Two Ande
Ballymurn Celtic  5  Tombrack United  4
Our Under Eleven boys are definitely the team to go watch as they were involved in their fourth high scoring thriller when they went down 5-4 to Ballymurn Celtic. Our lads trailed 4-2 but came back to 4-4 before losing to a last minute goal by a very good home side. Stephen O Toole scored all four goals for Tombrack while manager Darragh Hendrick was happy with the overall team performance and especially Cathal Byrne who was brilliant in defence

Under Thirteen Boys Division Three
Corach Ramblers  8  Tombrack United  1
Missing some key players, our Under Thirteen boys struggled away to Corach Ramblers, who are joint top of the division, with the home side running out 8-1 winners. Conor Salt was the goalscorer for Tombrack and despite a spirited performance from our lads, they found Rambers just too good on the day

Under Fourteen Girls Division Two A
Tombrack United  4  Wexford Youths  0
Our Under Fourteen girls picked up their first three points of the season when a strong second half performance saw them overcome Wexford Youths 4-0. After a scoreless first half, Tombrack took control of the second half with two goals from Nadine Fortune and one each from Amy Cashe and Zoe Tobin Cosgrave

Under Fifteen Boys Division Three
Tombrack United  12  Wexford Albion B  1
Our Under Fifteen boys moved back joint top of Division Three after this comprehensive victory over a young Albion B side. Josh McMullan is showing why he is in the League Representative squad as he knocked in six while Harry Fitzgibbon scored a hat trick to add to goals from Evan Maher, Sean Kehoe and Paul Doran

Youth Girls Division
Tombrack United  0  Wexford Celtic  0
These two sides played out a scoreless draw with chances few and far between and while Tombrack shaded the game possession wise and chances, they were unable to break down a resolute Celtic side.
This draw keeps our girls in the mix with four points from three games

Youth Boys Division Four
Wexford Albion  0  Tombrack United  0
Our youths team travelled to Wexford Albion and would have been favourite to take all three points but a hard working home side kept our lads at bay and after a scoreless draw, we had to be content with a point. The youths are still unbeaten in the league and still well in touch with the leaders so this could prove to be a very valuable point at the end of the season

Mens Division One
Tombrack United  0  St Josephs  0
Our lads played out a dour scoreless draw at home to third placed St Josephs and picked up a decent point in difficult windy conditions. Both sides effectively cancelled each other out in a hard fought encounter which threatened to boil over at times but in the end both sides had to be happy with a point each

Mens Division Four A
Tombrack United  2  Shamrock Rovers C  1
A good first half performance from our second team saw them do their promotion hopes a lot of good and they eventually held on for what could be a very valuable three points. James Hendrick scored a penalty on twenty minutes and ten minutes later John Ryan made it 2-0 and although Rovers did pull one back, our second team held on for the victory

Women's Division Three
Fastnet Rovers  1  Tombrack United  2
Played in a very difficult cross wind, both sides struggled to come to grips with the conditions and although Tombrack enjoyed the better of the possession, they were unable to find the net. Disaster struck early in the second half when Fastnet were awarded a penalty which was well placed in the bottom corner of the net. Only then did our women come to life and launched attack after attack on the Rovers goal and were eventually rewarded with a penalty on seventy four minutes which was scored by Sarah Merrigan. The pressure continued and six minutes later, Shannon McGovern scored her first goal for the women when she bravely got to a ball spilled by the home keeper and slot it into the net. Fastnet did rally back and brought two good saves from keeper Ashling Kavanagh before the ref sounded the final whistle. This win moves the women second in the table and keeps them unbeaten after three games.

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Marie Allen, Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Sarah Merrigan, Mary Boland, Kelli Maguire, Shannon McGovern, Chloe Hayden Doyle, Sharon Walsh (Leanne Kenny) Mary Martin Katie O Toole

A team advance in Leinster while B team draw

O Neills Leinster Junior Cup First Round
Tombrack United  2  Enniskerry YC  0
A strong first half performance saw our first team overcome Leinster Senior League side Enniskerry YC on Sunday afternoon. This game was postponed twice in the past but eventually went ahead in almost ideal conditions and Tombrack put in a slick controlled performance to advance to a second round meeting with Kilmore United.
Goals from Eoin Carton and John Coleman saw the lads control the game and some good possession football in the second half served to frustrate the high ranking visitors while some good defending from our lads reduced the Enniskerry forwards to long distance shots and half chances in the area.
This was a well deserved win for Tombrack and they will now face Wexford Premier side Kilmore United in Ballyboy in the next round

Wexford Division Four A
Tombrack United  2  Ajax Athletic  2
Our second team continued their good run of form and sit just behind the promotion chasing pack after this 2-2 draw at home to Ajax. After a poor start to the season, our second team have moved from near the foot of the table to mid table where they are tucked in behind the top four. Eoghan Murphy scored both goals in this strong overall team performance and manager John Brownrigg now believes that his team is capable of at least promotion

A win and a loss on a quiet Saturday

Only two teams were in official action today with the Under Twelve girls in Taghmon and the the Under Fourteen boys in Gorey Rangers.

The young girls side found the home side very strong and went down heavily with Ava Dragussin scoring our girls two goals in an 11-2 defeat.

The Under Fourteen boys picked up their third win of the season as they overcame Gorey Rangers second team 4-2 and remain in touch with the league leaders. In an overall strong team performance, Evan Maher scored twice with William Kenny and Adam Jeffers also finding the net

Our Under Ten boys were also in action and put in another excellent performance under the management of Darragh Hendrick. (Results from this age group cannot be publicised)

Men's B team heavily beaten in LFA Junior Shield

LFA Junior Shield First Round
Tombrack United B  0  O Moore FC  10
Our mens second team were unfortunate to come up against this side from Portlaoise in the LFA Junior Shield and were soundly beaten 10-0 by the much more experienced visiting side. The lads battled hard throughout the match but had no answer to the firepower of the visitors who are a team that could go well in this competition if they can keep their squad together

The men's first team was off due to a bereavement in Curracloe while the women's game was off due to an unplayable pitch in Ajax

Match Reports 15-10-2016

Under Sixteen Girls
Shelburne  3  Tombrack United  7
Our Under Sixteen girls made it two wins from two games when they traveled to Shelburne and came away 7-3 winners at a venue they have not enjoyed great luck in recent years. This season however, they were always in control and two goals each from Nadine Fortune, Becky Connaughton and Kelli Maguire as well as one from Nicola Ryan gave Tombrack an important three points

Under Twelve Boys
Cloughbawn AFC  5  Tombrack United  0
A poor first half performance against bogey side Cloughbawn saw our Under Twelve boys go down 5-0. The home side led 4-0 at the break and a much improved second half performance from Tombrack saw Cloughbawn just score the one goal. The game was much closer than the scoreline might suggest and manager Bob was happy with his teams second half performance

Under Fourteen Boys
Tombrack United  2  Newpark  8
A very strong Newpark side came to Ballyboy and left with the three points after they ran out 8-2 winners. Evan Maher scored a penalty in the first half and also found the net in the second half but Newpark were always in control and look to be a team that will definitely challenging for honours in this division at the end of the season

Under Twelve Girls
Tombrack United  1  New Ross Town  7
Our young Under Twelve girls side found New Ross Town more than a handful and despite a spirited performance went down 7-1.
(waiting on scorer)

Match Reports 09-10-2016

Mens Division Four A
Rosslare Port  3  Tombrack United  4
Our mens second team travelled to Rosslare (possibly two and a half hours early) but when the game did eventually kick off, they produced a top class performance to record their second win in a row.
In a seven goal thriller, Tombrack came out on top and after a poor start to the season. they are now pushing their way up the table into a challenge for promotion. Savo scored two with John Ryan and John Kavanagh getting a goaleach

Women's Division Three
Tombrack United  1  Stoney LFC  1
Our women played their first league match of the season this morning in Ballyboy and picked up a point against a very strong Stoney side. In a game that struggled to find a rhythem, both sides created chances but were either well defended or missed and the game looked to be heading for a scoreless draw until Sarah Merrigan cut in from the left to score in the 89th minute. Thirty seconds later the sides were level when Stoney broke from the kick off to score and in the end both sides had to be content with a point.
Tombrack did enjoy most of the possession but did not take their chances while Stoney always looked more than dangerous on the break

Team: Katie O Toole, Mary Boland, Lauren Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Marie Allen, Sharon Walsh, (Leanne Kenny), Kelli Maguire, Mary Martin, Chloe Hayden Doyle, Sarah Merrigan

Underage Results Saturday October 8th 2016

One of the busiest days for the club saw eight teams in action with four at home and four away.

Under Nine Schoolboys Blitz
Our youngest team headed to Gorey Celtic this morning for the second of the non competitive blitz's organised by the league and once again the squad gave a very good account of themselves. Results are not important at this age group but this group of players are producing some excellent football and the future of the club is in good hands

Under Eleven Boys
Tombrack United  4  Camolin Celtic  3
Manager Daragh Hendrick breathed a sigh of relief when this game ended as he experienced all the pressures of management as his young squad raced into a 3-0 lead, get pegged back to 3-3 before eventually running out 4-3 winners. After dominating the first half, the lads led 3-0 at the break thanks to a goal from Conor Dillon and a double from Danny Dreelan. Camolin came out strong in the second half and were back to 3-2 after two minutes and levelled midway through the half. Good goalkeeping from William Wilson and strong defending Pierce Murphy and Cathal Byrne kept us in the game and minutes before the end, Stephen O Toole scored an excellent free kick to give our Under Elevens a hard earned three points. Oran McGovern and sub Luke Regan both worked very hard for the side who showed great character to get a victory when it looked like the three points were lost

Under Thirteen Boys
Tombrack United  3  Corach Ramblers  1
"Some of the best football played in a long time" was how manager Bob Newe described this victory for the Under Thirteen side over Corach Ramblers. Playing some excellent attacking football, the lads looked very comfortable passing the ball around and never allowed Ramblers to settle into this game.
Goals from Conor O Toole, Pierce Murphy and Conor Salt gave the Thirteens their first win of the season against a Corach side who had won and drew their opening two games

Under Fifteen Boys
Kilmore United  4  Tombrack United  2
These two sides had won their opening two games of the season and this game was always going to be a very tight and hard fought battle. Kilmore enjoyed the opening stages of the match as our lads found it difficult to settle and the home side looked to be more comfortable on the ball and always in control of the match. Josh McMullan and Padraic Kinsella were on target for Tombrack who are still second in the table and will be looking forward to when Kilmore visit in the new year and will be confident of reversing this result

Youths Boys
LFA Youth Cup
Parkville United  4  Tombrack United  2
Our Youths side travelled to Tullow to take on Carlow League side Parkville in the Leinster Cup and were unlucky to go down 4-2 to a very talented home side. A poor first half performance proved costly for our lads and allowed the home side a 2-0 lead before they got themselves into the game and pulled one back through John Kavanagh just before the break. Kieran Kenny made it 2-2 early in the second half as the game settled into a dogged battle with both sides looking for the break which eventually came for the home side when they scored on 75 minutes. Tombrack went in search of the equaliser but Parkville defended well and deep in injury time, they broke away to score and make it 4-2.

Under Ten Girls
Tombrack United  4  Courtown Hibs  2
Our talented Under Ten girls side made it two wins from two games when they overcame Courtown Hibs 4-2 in an end to end exciting encounter which kept the large crowd well entertained. Hibs took the lead early in the game before Mikayla Tobin Cosgrave scored a great individual goal to level the game up but Hibs scored again just before half time to lead 2-1. Our girls played much better in the second half and levelled through Kate Tomkins before Mikayla added two more to give Tombrack a well deserved 4-2 win. This was an excellent overall team performance with keeper Eabha Guinan showing great confidence as did Emer Roche who was unlucky not to score when her shot came back off the post. Well done to Martin, Rebecca and all the girls

Squad: Eabha Guinan, Chloe Byrne, Kayla Roche, Mikayla Tobin Cosgrave, Megan Hayes, Emer Roche, Emily Doran Doyle, Ciara Kenny, Erin Tobin, Kate Tomkins, Lara Murphy, Marita McCrea, Rachel McCrea, Lily Peacock, Jenna Campbell Scully

Under Fourteen Girls
North End United  5  Tombrack United  2
Our young Under Fourteen side travelled to North End United and put up a good battling display before the home side eventually ran out 5-2 winners. Shauna McGovern and Kate Butler scored for our girls with only the ability of the home team to take their chances the difference between these two sides

Under Eighteen Girls (Seven a Side)
Tombrack United  0  Bree United  2
The new experimental seven a side league kicked off on Saturday morning and our very young side found the strong physical Bree side hard to handle. Despite this, our girls played well, putting in a good skillful passing performance and can look forward to their next game in two weeks time

Young Under 12 Girls side beaten in St Josephs

Monday October 3rd
Schoolgirls Division 2B
St Josephs  3  Tombrack United  0
A young Tombrack side travelled to Kilmuckridge on Monday evening and put up a brave display before eventually going down 3-0. This is a young side that had several under tens playing and after a great finish last season, where they finished runners up, they are now rebuilding and will be back in the challenge for honours in the near future

B team win but no luck for Women's team

Sunday October 2nd

Women's Shield Group A
Tombrack United  2  Camolin Celtic  4
Sharpness in front of goal was the difference between these two sides as Camolin came out on top after a tough battle. The visitors got the ideal start when they got down the left wing and crossed to score after just three minutes but Tombrack took control of the game for a long period then and could have been level as Mary Martin, Kelli Maguire and Sarah Merrigan all went close. The pressure continued in the second half but could not find a way through and Camolin proved deadly on the break and scored twice to lead 3-0. At this stage Tombrack came more into the game and goals from Sarah and Kelli had them within touching distance of Camolin but a late goal killed off their aspirations. With both teams short, all Tombrack players can be happy with their performance with Katie O Toole making her debut in goal and Leanne Kenny also making her first senior appearance up front

Squad: Katie O Toole, Marie Allen, Lauren Byrne, Ashling Kavanagh, Tia Byrne, Sarah Merrigan, Sharon Walsh, Kelli Maguire, Chloe Hayden Doyle, Mary Martin, Leanne Kenny

Men's Division Four A
Tombrack United  3  Taghmon United  1
Our men's second team have been competitive in most games this season but got no luck but all that changed today when a strong overall team performance saw them overcome Taghmon 3-1 in Ballyboy. Tombrack started well but found themselves a goal down after ten minutes when the defence failed to clear a ball and it ended up in the net. However, they knuckled down and battled their way back into the game and levelled through Jamie Murphy and further goals from Jamie Walsh and John Ryan gave them victory and their first three points of the season

Good Day for Underage Teams

Results for October 1st 2016
Under Ten Boys
St Cormacs v Tombrack United (non competitive)
One of your younger teams travelled to St Cormacs this morning and put in an excellent performance with Jimmy Breen and Eoin Tompkins but playing well in an overall strong team performance

Under Twelve Boys
Tombrack United  1  Forth Celtic B  1
Our Under Twelve Boys came from behind to collect an important point against a well organised Forth Celtic side. The Murrintown side took the lead in the first half but Tombrack battled back in the second half to secure a point when Conor Dillon scored and in the end the lads could have sneaked the win but were happy with a well earned point

Under Fourteen Boys
Gorey Celtic B  1  Tombrack United  7
Our Under Fourteen lads picked up all three wins after they picked up their second win of the season away to Gorey Celtic. William Kenny enjoyed a great game and scored a hat trick with Evan Maher, Conor Salt, Rashid Yasin and new signing Adam Jeffers all finding the net in the 7-1 win. This win brings the lads back up into a challenging position despite losing their first game of the season

Under Sixteen Girls
Tombrack United  5  St Leonards  1
Two goals each from the McGovern sisters Shannon and Shauna set our Under Sixteen girls up for an opening day win in the Premier division. Nadine Fortune also scored as this very strong squad showed their abilities against a very decent St Leonards side and have justified their tag as one of the favourites for the top division

Men through to next round of FAI Junior after win in Arklow

Friday September 30th
FAI Junior Cup First Round
Seaview Wanderers  3  Tombrack United  5

The men's first team made it through to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup after a strong first half display saw them eventually progress 5-3. Tombrack got the ideal start when they were awarded a penalty for a handball which Bob calmly dispatched to the net and they doubled their advanatage when Mick "Savo" Kelly sent a low shot past the keeper ten minutes later. The lads were well in control at this stage but Seaview did try to get back into the game and keeper Jason Maguire was called on to save a free kick twenty minutes in.
Eoin Carton scored his second on the half hour mark when he headed home a Kevin Kenny corner and shortly before half time James Coleman rounded the keeper to put the lads 4-0 ahead.

Seaview came out for the second half with more determination and pulled one back after seven minutes but ten minutes later Richie O Hara restored Tombrack's four goal advantage with a well taken goal

The home side did score twice more before the end, one a penalty, but the lads remained in control and have now booked their place in the next round.

In the first half, the whole team put in an excellent performance and played some smooth passing football on what was an excellent all weather surface in Lamberton while in the second half, Jason in the goal made two top class saves at vital points of the game while Kevin Kenny showed great maturity in midfield with Tom Hayden also working hard

B team finding life difficult in Division 4A

Men's Division Four A
Shamrock Rovers "C"  5   Tombrack United  2
Despite playing some decent football and creating some chances, our men's second team found the experience of the Rovers third string too much to handle. Jamie Walsh and Eoin Carton both found the net and while the 5-2 scoreline probably flattered Rovers, manager John Brownrigg was disappointed with the result although did credit his players with great effort

Results from 24-09-2016

Girls Under Ten North Division
Carnew AFC  0  Tombrack United  4
Tombrack Under Ten girls made the short trip across the border into Wicklow and opened their season with a win as they overcame Carnew 4-0 with an excellent overall team performance. This was manager Martin Doyle's first game in charge of this squad and was delighted with their performance as they were always comfortably in control. Emer Roche scored one with Mikayla Tobin Cosgrave starting her season with a hat trick and with a good panel of players to select from, this time could have a very interesting season
Squad: Kayla Roche, Emily Doran Doyle, Chloe Byrne, Megan Hayes, Mikayla Tobin Cosrave, Emer Roche, Lily Peacock

Boys Under Thirteen Division Three
Tombrack United  1  Glynn Barntown  3
Despite a decent performance, our Under Thirteen boys were unlucky not to come away from this game with a least a point. Playing in difficult conditions, Tombrack were against a strong wind in the first half but were still unlucky to find themselves 2-0 down at the break. Conor O Toole pulled one back early in the second half and as Tombrack pressed forward, it looked like a draw was a strong possibility until Glynn Barntown broke away to score and wrap up all three points

Boys Under Fifteen Division Three
Enniscorthy United  4  Tombrack United  6
Our Under Fifteen boys made it two wins from two games as they came away from Neil O Sullivan Park with the three points after a ten goal thriller. Josh McMullan celebrated his call up to the Wexford Under Fifteen squad with a hat trick in this match with David Power, Harry Fitzgibbon and Barry O Toole also finding the net. It was frustrating to concede four goals but this time has an array of talent and have now scored 13 goals in two games

All Three adults teams involved in close fought games

Men's Division One
Tombrack United    1    Bridge Rovers   2
Rovers will feel fortunate to have left Ballyboy with three points after a strong second half performance from Tombrack saw them almost snatch a draw. In an evenly contested game, it was the visitors who got the breaks in the first half and led 2-0 at the break with a chip over the advancing Jason Maguire to make it 1-0 and an unfortunate own goal to make it 2-0. Tombrack came much more into the game in the second half and pulled one back when Eoin Carton headed home a Brian Hayden cross. The home side went in search of the equaliser but despite both Richie O Hara and John Coleman going close, Bridge held on for all three points and remain top of the table. While disappointed with the result, manager Joe Newe was more than happy with the effort and determination of his squad and feels with a bit of luck they could have got something from this game

Mens Division Four A
Bree United    1     Tombrack United    1
A strong performance from our second men's team saw them collect their first point of the season but feel unfortunate when that it could have been so much more. After a scoreless first half, Tombrack took the lead when Willie Power scored a spectacular long range effort from midfield, catching the Bree keeper off his line. Bree battled hard for the equaliser but found the Tombrack defence difficult to break down and it looked like our lads might have done enough to get the three points. However with minutes left, a ball ball in around the area bounced off a Tombrack defenders arm and Bree scored the resultant  penalty to earn an unlikely point

Women's Divisional Shield
Courtown Hibs   0   Tombrack United   0
A dogged hard earned point in Courtown keeps Tombrack top of Group A in the Divisional Shield and are now in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages of this Shield competition. Courtown controlled long periods of the first half but found the Tombrack defence very strong and Ashling Kavanagh in the goal unbeatable. The second half performance from Tombrack was much better and we began to create chances of our own with a Sarah Merrigan free kick just grazing the crossbar and Shannon McGovern also going close. This was probably one of the more spirited performances by the women's team in recent years and they were well deserving of the point

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Lauren Byrne, Tia Byrne, Sarah Merrigan, Tammy Hennessy, Saoirse Harris (Marie Allen), Chloe Hayden Doyle, Kelli Maguire, Sharon Walsh (Katie O Toole) Shannon McGovern

Group A Table

Good day as Schoolboys win on the double

Under Twelve Boys Division Three
New Ross Town  1  Tombrack United  3
The Under Twelve lads got off to a winning start when they travelled to New Ross Town and came away with all three points after an excellent performance. Two goals from Stephen O Toole and one from Robert McCrea had Tombrack always in control and although we did concede one goal, manager Bob Newe was delighted with the overall attitude from his team. Pauric Guinan made his debut at right back and put in a confident display

Under Fourteen Boys Division Three
Wexford Celtic  2  Tombrack United  5
The Under Fourteen Boys bounced back from their opening day defeat with a confident display in Wexford Celtic coming away 5-2 winners. Conor Salt enjoyed a great day in front of goal by scoring a hat trick with Rashid Yasin and William Kenny also getting their names on the scoresheet

Another point earned for our Youths

Tuesday evening saw our Youths play out a thrilling 4-4 draw with a strong Killenagh side and while manager Willie Maher was happy with a point, he was disappointed to see a two goal lead slip away.
Tombrack seemed to be always in control of this match but found a hard working visiting side difficult to shake off.
A goal from Jamie Kavanagh put our lads ahead and when Kevin Kenny slotted home a penalty midway through the half, all seemed to be going to plan and even Killenagh pulling a goal back just before the break did not cause any concern,
A goal from John Kavanagh restored Tombrack's two goal cushion but once again Killenagh kept their hopes alive with a goal and despite controlling the game, our lads were finding it difficult to secure the three points
Kevin Kenny scored off another penalty to make it 4-2 but Killenagh refused to give up and scored again to keep in touch and in injury time, they were awarded a penalty which was converted to earn a point.
While Tombrack should have won this game, credit must be given to Killenagh for their never say die effort and both sides are level at the top of division four with a win and a draw each

Results and News Weekend Sept 13th 2016

Under Eleven Boys
Saturday Sept 10th v Fethard Rangers (A)
Our Under Eleven boys made the long journey to Fethard with a very under strength team and put up a brave battle before going down 4-3. It was only the fact that Tombrack were slightly outnumbered that prevented them from picking up points in this match and the future looks bright for this group of players. Tombrack goals cae from Stephen O Toole (2) and one from Oran McGovern.

Under Thirteen Boys
Saturday Sept 10th v Forth Celtic B (A)
A poor first half performance saw our Under Thirteen's trail badly in this opening match of the season and although they played much better in the second half, they were unable to get back into the game. The home side started well as Tombrack never really got going and Celtic led 7-1 at the break but the lads showed great spirit in the second half and scored 4 times before eventually losing 10-5. Tombrack goals came from Colm Fortune (3) and Robert McCrea (2)

Women
Sunday Sept 11th v St Cormacs (H)
Tombrack women opened their season with a strong second half person to overcome local rivals St Cormacs 5-0 in a very windy Ballyboy this morning. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, the women held the visitors at bay and were unlucky not to go ahead themselves when Tia Byrne was unable to connect with a Sarah Merrigan corner. Tombrack took control early in the second half when player of the match Kelli Maguire scored after creating space on the edge of the area and this was closely followed by a goal from Sharon Walsh to make it 2-0. Sarah Merrigan made it 3-0 when her shot rocketed in off the post before Sharon added her second and Mary Boland wrapped up the scoring when she converted a Shannon McGovern, who was making her debut, cross to the back of the net.

This win gives Tombrack an opening win the divisional shield and gives them a strong chance of qualifying out of the group
Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Boland, Lauren Byrne, Tia Byrne (Shannon MCGovern), Eimear Whelan, Tammy Hennessy, Sharon Walsh, Kelli Maguire, Mary Martin, Saoirse Harris (Chloe Hayden Doyle), Sarah Merrigan

Men's B Team
Sunday September 11th v Cloughbawn AFC "B"(H)
Despite getting an ideal start in this Division Four A match, our B team eventually went down 3-2 to a hard working and dogged Cloughbawn side. Tombrack started the game well and went ahead on ten minutes when Willie Power converted a penalty which had been awarded when a Cloughbawn defender handled the ball in the area. The home home side looked comfortable at this stage but allowed the Clonroche men back into the game and they scored three to take control of the game which was being played in very windy conditions in Ballyboy. The lads did push hard to get back into the game in the second half and were rewarded with a goal from Jamie Murphy but Cloughbawn managed to hang on for the three points

Under Ten Boys
Friday Sept 2nd v Moyne Rangers (A)
Our under ten boys kicked off the new season with a creditable performance in Enniscorthy against a skilful Moyne Rangers side. Despite playing some excellent football, our young team were unlucky not to score and the management team were delighted with this opening day performance

Youths Div 4
Saturday Sept 3rd v Ajax Athletic (H) @ 11am
Tombrack United opened their season with an emphatic win over a decent Alax side who battled hard before eventually getting overrun by the superior firepower of the home side. In difficult weather conditions, Tombrack were dominant in the opening period of the game and took the lead through Kevin Kenny and this was followed by goals from John Kavanagh and Jack Kehoe to lead 3-0 at half time. The second half was all Tombrack with Kevin adding another 4, John scoring 1 and the youthful Josh McMullan scoring his first official goal at youth level. Although Ajax did manage a consolation goal, Tombrack were worthy 9-1 winners and have declared their intent to be serious title challengers this season. Manager Willie Maher was delighted with the win but also stated that the players must remain focused and be prepared for their next game in two weeks time. Sam Lawton and Niall Maher were excellent in this match while the back four kept the visitors well at bay

Under Twelve Boys
Saturday September 3rd v New Ross Town (A) @ 12-30pm
Game off due to weather conditions

Mens First Team
Sunday September 3rd v Taghmon United (A) @ 11am
The lads made the long journey to Taghmon for what has always proven to be a difficult fixture in recent years but opened their campaign with a win and secure an important three points. With Savo (holiday) and Jamie Walsh (suspended) missing, manager Joe Newe had to make some tactical changes and in a very tight game, these changes proved to be vitally important. Kevin Kenny continued a great weekend when he scored the only goal of the game with ten minutes remaining but the home side did come in search of an equaliser and keeper Jason Maguire pulled off a great save in the dying minutes to hold on to the three points. Brian Hayden, Jon Walsh, James Coleman and Bob Newe also all put in excellent performances in this opening day win

Mens Second Team
Sunday September 3rd v St Josephs (A) @ 11am
The second team also had a difficult game away to St Josephs and had their problems made worse when the A team had to call on two of the players before travelling reducing the squad to twelve. The game was evenly contested with youth players Jack Kehoe and Jamie Kavanagh making their debut for the team with Jack slotting into a defence and put in a strong performance. St Josephs eventually took the points with a 2-0 win but our lads put in a creditable performance and will build on this performance for next week. As well as Jack, the team had good performances from Eoghan Murphy, David Kenny and David Fox

Women's Team
Sunday September 3rd v Bunclody (A) @ 11am
The Women's team played their final pre season friendly before the league kicks off next Sunday and drew 1-1 with a revamped and very strong Bunclody side. Our women controlled the opening period of the game but could not break down a resolute home defence and with twelve minutes to go to half time, Bunclody broke through to score. Tombrack opened the second half energetically and were rewarded five minutes in when Sarah Merrigan sent a twenty yard shot to the roof of the net. Both teams created chances for the remainder of the game but defences dominated with Marie Allen, Mary Boland and Chloe Hayden Doyle going close for us.

Mixed results for men's teams in final pre-season games

Both men's teams were in action today as the manager's put the final touches to their teams before the season kicks off next Sunday.

The first team were at home to Moyne Rangers second team and were happy enough to record a 3-2 win in a game where the lead constantly changed hands. Our lads enjoyed the majority of the possession but a mistake early in the game saw Moyne being awarded a free kick which they duly put to the back of the net. Tombrack continued to press forward and midway through the half, they won a free kick and player manager Joe Newe fired the ball to the back of the net.

Kevin Kenny was impressing on his first team debut and was causing the Moyne defence some problems as was the experienced Savo and some good work by both players saw a Savo shot deflected to the net by a Moyne defender.

Moyne came in search of an eqialiser and once again a sloppy pass by the Tombrack defence allowed Moyne in to score and tie the game up a 2-2. However, Tombrack were to have the final say when Jamie Walsh broke through to lob the keeper with fifteen minutes to go and wrap up a 3-2 victory.

Meanwhile, the second team traveled to Castlebridge to take on Bridge Rovers second team and found the home side in clinical scoring form and had the Tombrack defence under pressure from the start. Two first half goals saw the home side lead at half time and a three goal burst early in the second half saw them put the result beyond any doubt.

Eoghan Murphy did manage to pull one back when he rounded the keeper but it was just a consolation as Bridge rounded off their 6-1 with a late goal.

Manager John Brownrigg acknowledged "it was not an ideal result with the season kicking off next week but Bridge Rovers are a good side and will do well Division Three A" and added "our lads did show well at times and some positives can be taken from the game"

Next weekend will see the season kick off with both men's teams in action on Sunday while Saturday will see the Youths, Under Ten, Twelve and Fourteen schoolboys likely to be in action and fixtures will be posted here once confirmed

Under Thirteen Boys find it tough against Carnew

The Under Thirteen Boys played a friendly against Wicklow League side Carnew AFC on Friday evening and found the Wicklow League side who managed to be clinical in front of goal, taking their chances.

Despite the 7-0 defeat, it must be remembered that this was the first appearance on a full size pitch for some of these players plus the quality of the opposition must also be taken into account as Carnew will be one of the favourites to lift the premier title in the Under Thirteen Wicklow League.

However, manager Bob Newe will be looking for a more cohesive performance when they kick off in the league in a few weeks time and will expect his forwards to be a little more clinical in front of goal when the opportunity arises

Youths put in good display in Nurney

Last night saw the Youths team travel to Nurney Villa for a pre season friendly and manager Willie Maher was content with the performance despite losing by the odd goal in five.

A strong physical home side go off to a good start and led 2-0 before our lads found their feet and began to press forward and were rewarded when Kevin Kenny pulled one back. Tombrack continued to press forward in search of an equaliser and got back on level terms when Glenn Jacob scored to make it 2-2.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until the home side scored a long range spectacular goal with three minutes remaining to snatch victory

Despite the defeat, Maher was happy with the overall team performance, especially the performances of 15 year olds Alan Carton and Josh McMullan who were both making their debuts at this level.

The team now look forward to next Saturday when they kick off their league campaign in Division Four where they will compete with Ajax Athletic, Wexford Celtic 2nds, Wexford Albion 3rds, St Josephs and Camolin Celtic

Under Sixteen Girls Impress with Pre Season Victory

Our Under Sixteen girls opened their pre season last night with a home game against a young Camolin side and showed they are in clinical scoring form as they ran out comfortable 5-0 winners.

Squad: Leanne Kenny, Amy Cashe, Tia Byrne, Saoirse Harris, Paulina Farynik, Nicola Ryan, Ashling Crawte, Mary Clare McCrea, Nadine Fortune, Shannon McGovern, Shauna McGovern, Megan Allen Kenny, Shannon Hayes, Niamh Murphy, Becky Connaughton

Tough Task Ahead in Division One

With all the teams being now confirmed for this seasons men's Wexford League Division One, our lads know that a tough road lies ahead in what looks, on paper, to be one of the most competitive divisions in recent years.
With Eleven teams in the division, we will be facing twenty tough league games and several people involved in Wexford soccer are of the opinion that this division is on a par with the lower half of the Premier division and any of the teams in division one would be capable of holding their own in the top division

Here is a quick synopsis of who our lads will be up against

Curracloe United: A strong young side, relegated from Premier last season,  who will be hopeful of a quick return to the top division
Ferns United: Had good runs in outside competitions last season but could not transfer that form to the league but if they get off to a good start, are capable of winning the division
St Josephs: Last season's division two winners, are on a resurgence back up the divisions and will be looking to continue that run this season
St Cormacs: Runners up in division two and Neil O Sullivan Cup runners up, Luke Foran Park will not be an easy place to come away from with three points
Corach Ramblers: Won the Neil O Sullivan Cup last season and probably have one of the best teams in the club in recent years.
Forth Celtic: Third place finish last season and lost play off for promotion, will feel promotion to the the premier division is well within their capabilities
St Leonards: If they can find consistency, they are capable of a push for the title but need to get off to a good start
Wexford Bohs: Would like to get themselves back in the top division after a few years in division one where they have yet to make a major impact
Bridge Rovers: Always a difficult side to beat and will always be pushing hard for promotion and will believe they are well capable of getting there
Taghmon United: Finished level with us on points last season, have established themselves well in this division and always a tough opponent

All of the above are decent sides and no easy games can be expected, the positive from Tombrack side is its probably looking like one of our stronger squads since being promoted to this division, most of the lads have now the experience of playing at this level, while some of the pre season friendlies have looked very positive for us.

Savo strike overcomes Rangers in drama filled friendly

With both sides low on numbers, Tombrack and Gorey Rangers men's teams still managed to produce an exciting friendly before our lads eventually came out 2-1 winners.
Premier side Rangers started the game well and looked comfortable in possession although they did find the well marshaled Tombrack defence difficult to break down. However, they did go ahead when they scored midway through the half with a well taken goal and were looking comfortable at this stage.  Our lads were managing to create some chances and on one of those occasions, James Coleman was taken down for a penalty, which taken by Bob but was well saved by the keeper, however, Richie O Hara was on hand to knock the rebound into the net.
Darragh Hendrick and Bob Newe were proving very strong in defence and restricting Gorey's chances while Rory Newe and Jamie Murphy were creating all sort of problems for the home side as the first half ended all square.
The second half was very much as the first half with Gorey enjoying the possession but Tombrack were well in control of the situation and were growing in confidence as the game progressed and ten minutes from the end, Savo slotted the ball into the net to put the lads 2-1 ahead.
The drama wasn't over yet as Rangers came in search of an equaliser and were awarded a penalty with five minutes to go but keeper Alan Owens topped off a good overall display by saving the spotkick and Tombrack held on for a 2-1 win
Overall manager Joe Newe was happy with the performance and content with how the team is shaping up as the season quickly approaches

Women open pre season with win over Courtown

A blistering first half performance saw Tombrack travel to Courtown and come away 5-1 winners in their first pre season friendly of the new season. New signings Sarah Merrigan and Mary Boland made their club debuts but it was a player who was playing her final game for the season before heading off on her travels, Ciara Ryan, who opened the scoring on seven minutes to put Tombrack deservedly ahead after Tammy Hennessy had brought a good save from the home keeper. Tombrack continued to press forward and five minutes later Saoirse Harris lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 2-0 and then Ciara broke through the defence to make it 3-0 on twenty minutes.
Tammy, who had been working very hard throughout the forty five minutes, deservedly made it 4-0 before half time.
Despite the 4-0 scoreline, Hibs did have their chances but found the Tombrack defence impenetrable and chances were kept to a minimum and anything that did break through was dealt with by keeper Ashling Kavanagh.
As changes were made on a regular basis, the intensity went out of the second half but Tombrack continued to press forward with Sarah, Ciara, Tammy, Marie and Mary all bringing saves from the very competent Courtown keeper.
The fifth goal came when Kelli Maguire tapped in a Ciara Ryan corner with Courtown having the final say when they scored an injury time consolation goal.
Manager Peter Doyle was happy with the overall performance of the team but was clear to state "Its only a pre-season friendly and we need to continue to work hard to be ready for the new season but the mixture of youth and experience is coming together well and we have a lot to build on"

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Casey Doyle, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Mary Boland, Marie Allen, Sarah Merrigan, Kelli Maguire, Saoirse Harris, Ciara Ryan, Tammy Hennessy, Mary Martin.

Newe happy with performance despite defeat to Hibs

The men's A team took on a well organised Courtown Hibs today and despite going down 2-0, manager Joe Newe was happy with the performance against the premier side. A couple of mistakes proved costly for Tombrack and conceded twice through unforced errors although Courtown must be given credit on their ability and sharpness in front of goal.
Newe was a little disappointed with the numbers avaialble for selection today with some key players missing for various reasons and with the season kicking off in three weeks and he stated "hopefully all players will be available when we take on Gorey Rangers next weekend"
Despite these problems, he was more than happy with the performance with the squad in this game as they held possession for long periods of the game while creating several chances with Darragh Hendrick in particular especially effective pressing forward. Rory Newe also performed well in midfield while new signing Jason Maguire continues to impress in the goal
Courtown look like a team who will be strong in the premier division this season and when presented with opportunities in this match, they had no problems capitalising on them and were fully deserving of their two goal victory.
However, if Tombrack continue to perform well in these pre season games against higher ranked sides, they too, will go into division one feeling well capable of launching a realistic push for at least promotion

Mens B team on top in nine goal thriller

Our men's B team took on Carnew Celtic this morning in Ballyboy and despite being forced to make several changes from Friday night, they eventually overcame the Wicklow League side by the odd goal in nine.
The visitors took an early lead when a long ball over the top ended up in the net despite Tombrack having started very well. However, the lads quickly got back into the game and were back on level terms when Jamie Murphy found the net and minutes later they were ahead when Eoin Carton scored.
A long range free kick scord by Jamie Murphy increased the lead before Willie Power hit the net with a volley to give Tombrack a comfortable 4-1 lead

A lapse of concentration in the second half saw Carnew capitalise on defensive errors to come back into the game to score three times in quick succesion, two of them penalties, to tie up the game at 4-4.

However the introduction of Kevin Kenny into the team settled Tombrack down and his pinpoint pass found Jamie Murphy in space and he slotted the ball into the net to complete his hat trick and give Tombrack  victory

Manager John Brownrigg was delighted with the character shown by his players despite having a small squad today due to several key players being away

Also best wishes to Eoin Carton for a speedy recovery after he picked up a nasty injury in this match.

Squad: Jason Watchorn, Mikey Kenny, Willie Harte, David Kennedy, David Fox, Jamie Murphy, Willie Power, Daryl Kearns, Kieran Kenny, Eoin Carton, John Ryan, Kevin Kenny, James Kehoe

B team disappointed with result but happy with overall performance

The men's second team made the short trip to Ballycarney on Friday evening to take on Castledockrell United and despite going down 5-1, they were happy overall with the performance and manager John Brownrigg was in a position to try out several players in different positions.
He will be disappointed that three of the goals came from basic errors but a lot of that can be put down to first game back and playing a side who are a couple of divisions above them.
A nervous start saw the home team score twice but Tombrack settled down after that and finished the first half much stronger and were playing the better football for long periods. James Kehoe did pull one back when his shot was deflected to the net but with changes being made, our lads lost their shape and conceded three more in the closing stages of the game. We also missed a penalty at a crucial time so despite the 5-1 defeat, the team did manage to create several opportunities and the result did flatter the home team.
This match saw Mark Melay, Michael Smyth, William Harte and Daryl Kearns make their senior debut for the club while John Ryan returned from Bunclody and David "Buggy" Kennedy has also returned to playing so this team are heading into Division Four A with more than a decent chance of at least promotion
