Our men's B team took on Carnew Celtic this morning in Ballyboy and despite being forced to make several changes from Friday night, they eventually overcame the Wicklow League side by the odd goal in nine.
The visitors took an early lead when a long ball over the top ended up in the net despite Tombrack having started very well. However, the lads quickly got back into the game and were back on level terms when Jamie Murphy found the net and minutes later they were ahead when Eoin Carton scored.
A long range free kick scord by Jamie Murphy increased the lead before Willie Power hit the net with a volley to give Tombrack a comfortable 4-1 lead
A lapse of concentration in the second half saw Carnew capitalise on defensive errors to come back into the game to score three times in quick succesion, two of them penalties, to tie up the game at 4-4.
However the introduction of Kevin Kenny into the team settled Tombrack down and his pinpoint pass found Jamie Murphy in space and he slotted the ball into the net to complete his hat trick and give Tombrack victory
Manager John Brownrigg was delighted with the character shown by his players despite having a small squad today due to several key players being away
Also best wishes to Eoin Carton for a speedy recovery after he picked up a nasty injury in this match.
