Women open pre season with win over Courtown

A blistering first half performance saw Tombrack travel to Courtown and come away 5-1 winners in their first pre season friendly of the new season. New signings Sarah Merrigan and Mary Boland made their club debuts but it was a player who was playing her final game for the season before heading off on her travels, Ciara Ryan, who opened the scoring on seven minutes to put Tombrack deservedly ahead after Tammy Hennessy had brought a good save from the home keeper. Tombrack continued to press forward and five minutes later Saoirse Harris lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 2-0 and then Ciara broke through the defence to make it 3-0 on twenty minutes.
Tammy, who had been working very hard throughout the forty five minutes, deservedly made it 4-0 before half time.
Despite the 4-0 scoreline, Hibs did have their chances but found the Tombrack defence impenetrable and chances were kept to a minimum and anything that did break through was dealt with by keeper Ashling Kavanagh.
As changes were made on a regular basis, the intensity went out of the second half but Tombrack continued to press forward with Sarah, Ciara, Tammy, Marie and Mary all bringing saves from the very competent Courtown keeper.
The fifth goal came when Kelli Maguire tapped in a Ciara Ryan corner with Courtown having the final say when they scored an injury time consolation goal.
Manager Peter Doyle was happy with the overall performance of the team but was clear to state "Its only a pre-season friendly and we need to continue to work hard to be ready for the new season but the mixture of youth and experience is coming together well and we have a lot to build on"

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Casey Doyle, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Mary Boland, Marie Allen, Sarah Merrigan, Kelli Maguire, Saoirse Harris, Ciara Ryan, Tammy Hennessy, Mary Martin.
