Newe happy with performance despite defeat to Hibs

The men's A team took on a well organised Courtown Hibs today and despite going down 2-0, manager Joe Newe was happy with the performance against the premier side. A couple of mistakes proved costly for Tombrack and conceded twice through unforced errors although Courtown must be given credit on their ability and sharpness in front of goal.
Newe was a little disappointed with the numbers avaialble for selection today with some key players missing for various reasons and with the season kicking off in three weeks and he stated "hopefully all players will be available when we take on Gorey Rangers next weekend"
Despite these problems, he was more than happy with the performance with the squad in this game as they held possession for long periods of the game while creating several chances with Darragh Hendrick in particular especially effective pressing forward. Rory Newe also performed well in midfield while new signing Jason Maguire continues to impress in the goal
Courtown look like a team who will be strong in the premier division this season and when presented with opportunities in this match, they had no problems capitalising on them and were fully deserving of their two goal victory.
However, if Tombrack continue to perform well in these pre season games against higher ranked sides, they too, will go into division one feeling well capable of launching a realistic push for at least promotion
