Results Weekend 4th Sept 2016

Under Ten Boys
Friday Sept 2nd v Moyne Rangers (A)
Our under ten boys kicked off the new season with a creditable performance in Enniscorthy against a skilful Moyne Rangers side. Despite playing some excellent football, our young team were unlucky not to score and the management team were delighted with this opening day performance

Youths Div 4
Saturday Sept 3rd v Ajax Athletic (H) @ 11am
Tombrack United opened their season with an emphatic win over a decent Alax side who battled hard before eventually getting overrun by the superior firepower of the home side. In difficult weather conditions, Tombrack were dominant in the opening period of the game and took the lead through Kevin Kenny and this was followed by goals from John Kavanagh and Jack Kehoe to lead 3-0 at half time. The second half was all Tombrack with Kevin adding another 4, John scoring 1 and the youthful Josh McMullan scoring his first official goal at youth level. Although Ajax did manage a consolation goal, Tombrack were worthy 9-1 winners and have declared their intent to be serious title challengers this season. Manager Willie Maher was delighted with the win but also stated that the players must remain focused and be prepared for their next game in two weeks time. Sam Lawton and Niall Maher were excellent in this match while the back four kept the visitors well at bay

Under Twelve Boys
Saturday September 3rd v New Ross Town (A) @ 12-30pm
Game off due to weather conditions

Mens First Team
Sunday September 3rd v Taghmon United (A) @ 11am
The lads made the long journey to Taghmon for what has always proven to be a difficult fixture in recent years but opened their campaign with a win and secure an important three points. With Savo (holiday) and Jamie Walsh (suspended) missing, manager Joe Newe had to make some tactical changes and in a very tight game, these changes proved to be vitally important. Kevin Kenny continued a great weekend when he scored the only goal of the game with ten minutes remaining but the home side did come in search of an equaliser and keeper Jason Maguire pulled off a great save in the dying minutes to hold on to the three points. Brian Hayden, Jon Walsh, James Coleman and Bob Newe also all put in excellent performances in this opening day win

Mens Second Team
Sunday September 3rd v St Josephs (A) @ 11am
The second team also had a difficult game away to St Josephs and had their problems made worse when the A team had to call on two of the players before travelling reducing the squad to twelve. The game was evenly contested with youth players Jack Kehoe and Jamie Kavanagh making their debut for the team with Jack slotting into a defence and put in a strong performance. St Josephs eventually took the points with a 2-0 win but our lads put in a creditable performance and will build on this performance for next week. As well as Jack, the team had good performances from Eoghan Murphy, David Kenny and David Fox

Women's Team
Sunday September 3rd v Bunclody (A) @ 11am
The Women's team played their final pre season friendly before the league kicks off next Sunday and drew 1-1 with a revamped and very strong Bunclody side. Our women controlled the opening period of the game but could not break down a resolute home defence and with twelve minutes to go to half time, Bunclody broke through to score. Tombrack opened the second half energetically and were rewarded five minutes in when Sarah Merrigan sent a twenty yard shot to the roof of the net. Both teams created chances for the remainder of the game but defences dominated with Marie Allen, Mary Boland and Chloe Hayden Doyle going close for us.
