Final Match Reports for 2016-17

Friday May 19th
Under Sixteen Schoolgirls Premier Division
Tombrack United 1 Bunclody AFC 0
Our Under Sixteen girls were already league champions heading into this game but still put in a top class performance to overcome Bunclody 1-0 courtesy of a Shannon McGovern goal midway through the first half. The girls had enjoyed the better possession throughout and hit the crossbar twice early on while the defence dealt with anything the visitors threw at them. While the final scoreline was 1-0, Tombrack never looked in trouble and were presented with their league trophy by League Administrator Peter Doyle to spark off an evening of mad celebrations. Well done to Sean, Bridget and Pat and of course, all the players on a fantastic achievement

Saturday May 20th
Under Eighteen Sevens Play Off Semi Final
St Leonards 0 Tombrack United 2
As far as draws go, our girls got the worst possible as they were drawn away in this play off semi final and made the long journey to play St Leonards in Ballycullane. However, this did not seem to deter our girls as they put in probably their best performance of the season as they took control of this game and ran out 2-0 winners, scoring a goal in each half. Shannon McGovern scored in the first half and Becky Connaughton wrapped it up with a goal in the second half

Sunday May 21st
Mens Premier Division Promotion Play Off
Tombrack United 1 Rosslare Rangers 1 aet
(Tombrack won 3-0 on penalties)
Arguably the biggest result in the history of the club saw our men wrap up a great season by attaing promotion to the premier division courtesy of a penalty shoot out over Rosslare Rangers in Ferrycarrig Park. In an evenly contested first half, Tombrack were dealt a blow early on when keeper Paul Darcy had to go off injured with Eoghan Murphy taking over in goal. Just after the half hour mark, Rosslare got the break through when they broke down the wing and fired an unstoppable shot to the back of the net. Tombrack came in search of an equaliser and went close through James Coleman, Mick "Savo" Kelly and Richie O Hara but it looked like the game was slipping away as it headed into injury time. However, a hand ball from a corner saw the lads awarded a penalty and Bob Newe stepped up and showed great composure to slot home the penalty. No goals in extra time saw the game go to penalties where the lads held their nerve to progress to the Premier division for the first time ever with Kevin Coleman, Rory Newe and James Coleman scoring in the 3-0 win. Well done to Joe, Willie and all the lads on what was a remarkable achievement and well deserved

Saturday May 27th
Under Eighteen Sevens Play Off Final
Tombrack United 1 Bree United 1 aet
(Tombrack won 4-2 on penalties)
The final game of the season saw our Eighteen girls wrap the Seven a Side league title after a penalty shoot out win in very difficult weather conditions in Ballyboy. In a game that was always going to be very tight, defences dominated in the first half although Tombrack would have enjoyed the better chances. The home side got the break through in the second half when they were awarded a penalty and Becky Connaughton slotted the ball to the net, however the lead was shortlived as Bree enjoyed their best spell in the game and were quickly back on level terms with a well taken goal just a few minutes later. No further goals saw the game go to extra time and then penalties where Becky, Breda Cushen, Amie Dreelan and Nicola Ryan all scored to give our girls a 4-2 win. Well done to Pat, Sean and all involved for what was a fantastic season and are well deserved league champions
