Men's Division One
Forth Celtic 2 Tombrack United 3
No matter where the lads finish in this division, this win in Forth Celtic will go down as a landmark victory as this is one of the toughest venues in the county to get a result. The game was competitive from the word go and very little between the sides and when it was locked at 2-2 with minutes to go, it looked as if this was to be a hard earned away point. James Coleman and Eoin Carton had scored for Tombrack but in the dying minutes, Kevin Coleman crossed into the box and Eoin scored his second of the game as it rocketed off a defender into the back of the net. This win was no more than Tombrack deserved as they use their games in hand to pull themselves clear of relegation trouble and keep alive the dreams of promotion to the premier division
Men's Division Four A
Taghmon United 2 Tombrack United 1
This game was a catalogue of disasters from the start as our lads and the referee turned up for an 11am kick off that had been changed to 1pm without being notified. Tombrack were given the option of going home but decided to stay and get the fixture played and found themselves a goal down when the game eventually did kick off. Five minutes into the second half Eoghan Murphy brought the sides level and Tombrack had several chances to take the lead but squandered them and paid the ultimate price fifteen minutes from the end when Taghmon scored to take all three points. This loss could prove critical for Tombrack but they have a chance to bounce back with another important match away to Boolavogue next Sunday
MMI.ie Wexford Women's Cup Second Round
Tombrack United 3 St Josephs 4
The women bowed out of the cup after a seven goal thriller against Division Two A which was the teams first defeat in ten games. A poor first half saw the women fall 2-0 behind after some rare errors in defence but a Mary Boland goal managed to pull Tombrack back into the game just before half time. St Josephs strong point is their ability to finish and within fifteen minutes of the second half, they scored twice and seemed to be cruising through to a quarter final meeting with Fastnet. However, Breda Cushen came on as a sub and scored her first senior goal for the team, followed minutes later by another Mary Boland goal and it was game on. However, St Josephs used their vast experience to slow the game down and although Tombrack did go close before the end, the visitors held on for victory
**One bit of good news for the women was closest challengers for the league, Stoney LFC, were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Cushinstown and moves Tombrack one step closer to the title**
Squad: Ashling Kavanagh (Katie O Toole), Mary Martin, Saoirse Harris, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Sarah Merrigan, Marie Allen, Kelli Maguire, Mary Boland, Sharon Walsh (Breda Cushen), Leanne Kenny (Shannon McGovern), Chloe Hayden Doyle
