Volkswagon Wexford Cup Fourth Round
New Ross Celtic 1 Tombrack United 0
Our men travelled to Premier side New Ross Celtic in this Wexford Cup match and will feel unlucky not to have caused an upset by knocking the high profile home side out f the competition. In an evenly contested first half, both sides created chances but defence's dominated and the game was scoreless at the break. As could be expected, Celtic had more of the ball but had to work hard to break down the visitors defence although they eventually got the breakthrough with fifteen minutes to go and will now meet North End in the quarter final. Overall, our lads can be happy with this cup run as they now head into a busy week as they play at home to St Cormacs on Tuesday evening and home to Taghmon United on Thursday
Wexford Football League Division Four A
Tombrack United B 5 Bree Unted B 2
The men's second team earned themselves a play-off for promotion when they overcame Bree United 5-2 to get the three points they needed to tie with Boolavogue United in third place. The lads got off to an ideal start when Kieran Kenny drilled the ball through a crowded area and into the corner of the net after just five minutes. Two goals from prolific goal scorer Mick "Savo" Kelly had the lads 3-1 ahead at half time and he continued his good scoring form with two second half goals to secure a 5-2 victory. Well done to John and the lads and the possibility of a second promotion in a row remains a distinct reality
Women's Division Three Cup Semi Final
Tombrack United 4 Bridge Rovers 0
The Women are through to the Divisional Cup Final when they overcame a stubborn Bridge Rovers side with another overall good team performance. Tombrack started strongly and went 1-0 up on seventeen minutes when the Rovers keeper saved a Shannon McGovern shot but Sharon Walsh was on hand to slot away the rebound. Shannon should have made it 2-0 shortly after but saw her shot sail over the crossbar before Rovers came into the game and enjoyed their better spell with Ashling Kavanagh saving well twice. Three minutes before half time, the home side broke from midfield and Shannon found the net with a delicate chip to make it 2-0.
Tombrack kept up the intensity in the second half and ten minutes in, Marie Allen sent a thirty five yard shot to the net and seven minutes later, Shannon got her second and wrapped up the match when she rounded the keeper. Leanne Kenny, Sharon Walsh and Tammy Hennessy all went close before the end and Tombrack will now go through to a cup final meeting with Stoney on April 30th
Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin (Lauren Byrne), Breda Cushen, Eimear Whelan, Tia Byrne, Marie Allen, Mary Boland, Kelli Maguire, Chloe Hayden Doyle (Katie O Toole), Sharon Walsh (Leanne Kenny) Shannon McGovern (Tammy Hennessy)
